Dane County's air needs our immediate attention. The air we breathe in Dane County currently meets state and federal air quality standards. However, pollution measurements taken during the past few years indicate that, especially as Dane County continues to grow, we must all take action to ensure our air remains healthy into the future.

The Dane County Clean Air Coalition, area stakeholders and citizens are voluntarily developing a multi-year action plan addressing the major sources of ozone-causing pollutants and promoting clean air activities. The It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air campaign is an innovative and preventative approach to reducing emissions in Dane County that will protect air quality while allowing continued economic development.

The It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air campaign focuses on the following strategies:

  • Working with industries, businesses and government agencies on specific, cost-effective ways to reduce air emissions
  • Lowering emissions from mobile sources by using cleaner vehicles and fuels, and providing mass transit and clean commute programs
  • Educating citizens about the importance of clean air and encouraging individuals to take actions that will help improve air quality
  • Implementing Clean Air Action Days to heighten awareness and encourage broad-based participation in ozone-reducing efforts
